Joel continued: “It’s obvious that he didn’t like them, never wanted to be one, thought it was kitschy, didn’t think it was real. What he realised is there was no soul in it. At the end of the day, there’s no soul in a hologram. It’s soulless. By definition it is. For me, when I can watch Elvis, when I can hear Elvis, that’s Elvis. Everything else is a pale imitation.”

However, fans shouldn’t totally give up hope given that the technology has vastly improved over the decades and ABBA are adamant that their motion-captured performances aren’t holograms but vastly better.

Interestingly, Priscilla Presley herself won’t close the door entirely on the idea, saying it depends on how the technology develops over the years.
